Shilem Letzki
Jul 23rd, 2009 by ShandaMeister
A 19th century Warsaw Jew with a caftan, Letzki lived in a world where 17% of the prostitutes were Jews. Of interest is that few of this pre-war underworld made any great distinction between their activities and their religious life. Letzki organized a small synagogue for the Jewish prostitute community.
Shande: Was it really such a resgularly accepted vocation that you could have your own synagogue like the “Actors Studio,” or “Garment Center.” Of all the ways to find spiritial nourishment, how about providing some new job training and some hygienic medical assistance or help to emigrate to Israel or America?
