This Polish-Jewish socialist rose to prominence in Germany as the founder of the Spartakusbund. The Leader of the failed German revolution Luxemburg was captured by the Freikorps and her body was dumped in the Spree after her murder in cold blood. She has become a symbol of the unfulfilled hopes of the fourth international, the Trotskyites and democratic socialists everywhere.
Shande: What is a nice Polish-Yiddish lady doing starting a revolution? It seems like she had time to get her hair and nails done as well, she has great hair in all extant photos. To her credit, she saw through the dictatorship of Lenin in Russia, but nevertheless took a somewhat bipolar view of the world, witness this quote: “
we stand today before the awful proposition: either the triumph of imperialism and the destruction of all culture, and as in ancient Rome, depopulation, desolation, degeneration, a vast cemetery; or, the victory of socialism.
